The current generation of Subaru’s subcompact crossover has been around since 2017 and if you are familiar with this Japanese manufacturer and its policy, you know what to expect from the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek. Due to a typical five-year production cycle, it’s quite obvious that a full redesign is on the way. The company already announced that the new Crosstrek is coming with the next-generation Impreza, sometime in the second half of the next year.
At this point, we don’t know the details, but some aspects of the new model are an easy guess. One of the changes that are expected is under the hood, where a new turbocharged engine should be offered. Of course, this redesign will bring novelties in other aspects too, though most of them should be evolutionary.
2023 Subaru Crosstrek Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. We count on the further evolution of the company’s modular platform and once again, most of the parts will be shared Impreza, which will come all-new at about the same time. Mechanical improvements will bring a new suspension setup, which should provide better ride quality, whether it’s about comfort or handling.
Visually, we don’t expect surprises. We count on Subaru’s typical conservative approach. So, the overall shape should remain largely the same, though some minor size increase is always possible. The biggest changes will come at the front, where we expect to see a more prominent grille design, sharper bumper and new LED headlights.
Interior
On the inside, Subaru will continue to improve the overall design. The current generation already looks pretty good from the inside, so things could only become better with the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek. In other words, we expect the new model to come with finer materials, more attractive aesthetics and better overall build quality. Of course, we count on new features, both in terms of tech goodies and advanced driver aids and safety systems.
Slight improvements are also expected regarding passenger and cargo space, though the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. It offers two spacious rows of seats, while the cargo area is among the biggest in the class. In numbers, that would be 20.8 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 55.3 cubic feet in total.
2023 Subaru Crosstrek Engines
Some of the biggest changes are expected under the hood. If we can trust the latest reports, the base 2.0-liter engine will be replaced with a new, 1.5-liter turbocharged unit. This one will feature similar output but more torque. On the other hand, the bigger 2.5-liter flat-four will probably continue in the same way, featuring a max output of 182 horsepower. Both engines would come in pair with a CVT gearbox and standard all-wheel drive.
A hybrid version should come too. It should be pretty similar to the current setup, which combines a 2.0-liter engine with two electric motors, for a total output of around 150 horsepower. The new system should bring a few more horsepowers, as well as slight improvements regarding fuel efficiency.
We can also hear rumors about the performance version of this crossover. Of course, we are talking about the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness, which will come with all kinds of off-road upgrades. Not only that – many believe it could also come with a 2.4-liter turbo-four, with 260 horsepower. At this point, this is just a rumor.
2023 Subaru Crosstrek Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek will arrive sometime in the second half of 2022. The price should be significantly different compared to the current model, which starts at around 23.000 dollars. Some of the key competitors are models like Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-30 etc.
