2023 Jeep Compass Preview: No Bigger Changes To Come

The current generation of Jeep’s compact SUV has been around for a while and after the recent updates, we are pretty sure it will remain in production for some more time. Moreover, some sources suggest novelties for the next year, in the form of a plug-in hybrid version. The officials are still quiet on this matter. Other than that, we don’t expect to see bigger changes, though there’s always a chance to see novelties in terms of new standard features. We expect that the 2023 Jeep Compass will arrive sometime late in the year.

The next year’s model will continue with familiar design characteristics. There are a lot of things to like about this small SUV, starting from excellent off-road capability, intuitive infotainment system and pretty comfortable seats. On the other hand, the biggest complaints go to the small cargo area and unimpressive gasoline engine.

2023 Jeep Compass Design

Design-wise, things won’t change for the next year. The 2023 Jeep Compass will continue with the same layout, which has been around since 2017. Meanwhile, we saw a facelift, which has brought a couple of interesting updates, starting from an updated front end. The current still looks quite fresh and we are pretty sure that the next year’s Compass will remain fresh-looking as well, despite that the competition is getting tougher and tougher.

Speaking of the competition, the 2023 Jeep Compass will continue to offer what other models in the class don’t. Yes, we are talking about pretty impressive off-road performance, which characterizes all versions of the SUV. The base Compass is available with all-wheel drive, as well as with a Selec-Terrain management system that includes several traction modes – Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud settings. Furthermore, the Trailhawk trim offers a full load of off-road hardware, which includes low-range gearing, hill descent control, a Rock traction setting, an off-road suspension, additional skid plates, and two tow hooks.

Interior

The cabin has been redesigned recently and the Compass now features a pretty attractive dashboard design. So, we may expect the same thing in the next year. The dashboard looks nice, while we also like the fact that most of the cabin is covered with nice materials. Also, we really like the infotainment system, which isn’t just intuitive and easy to use but also makes this cabin look more upscale.

The front seats are massive and supportive, with plenty of space for taller passengers. Furthermore, The second row is also pretty generous with space and can accommodate adults in a pretty nice way. On the other hand, the cargo area is small when compared to rivals. You may count on no more than 27.2 cubic feet behind the second row, and 59.8 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

We don’t believe that the next year’s model could bring too many changes in terms of the standard and available equipment. Most things should remain the same. So, base models should come with a remote keyless entry, an 8.4-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, three USB ports, satellite radio, and voice recognition. Among upgrades, we expect to see things like a 7-inch or 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touch screen, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, wireless device charging, an additional USB port, navigation, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.

The same thing is with safety features. So, all models should come standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert etc. Among upgrades, expect to find adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, park assist, surround-view camera, traffic sign recognition, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic high beams etc.

2023 Jeep Compass Engines

If we can trust rumors, there is a big chance to see the 2023 Jeep Compass with a new powertrain option. That would be a plug-in hybrid setup, which would be based on a 1.3-liter turbo-four engine. That setup is already available in the European version of Compass, and it delivers a total output of 240 horsepower. The system includes an 11.4-kWh battery pack, which ensures around 30 miles of the all-electric range.

On the other hand, standard models will continue with a familiar 2.4-liter inline-four engine, which puts out around 180 horsepower and comes coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The average fuel economy goes around 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, which is below average for the segment.
