The Pilot has always been considered one of the best familiar three-row SUVs on the market but the current generation is getting old, while the competition is tougher than ever. That’s why we have big expectations from the 2023 Honda Pilot, which is about to receive a complete redesign. At this point, we are still waiting for the details, but it looks like the new model will be ready for the second half of the next year.
Although it’s still early for the details, we know what to expect from the new generation of Honda Pilot. The first thing that comes to mind is the styling and overall exterior design and from what we know so far, the new model will get slightly bigger. Furthermore, we count on improved interior quality, more standard and available equipment etc. On the other hand, the powertrain department probably won’t change that much.
The 2023 Honda Pilot should hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022.
2023 Honda Pilot Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, some of the things about the 2023 Honda Pilot are relatively easy to predict. First of all, this refers to the overall layout. The new generation will ride on a new platform and, as you may presume, the new model will have a lot of things in common with the new Acura MDX, which has just been redesigned. That means we will probably see a little bit bigger dimensions before. The new model will gain 2.8 inches in wheelbase, it should be longer and wider as well.
Naturally, the new platform should bring improvements regarding ride quality as well. The center of gravity should be lower, while the suspension should be more refined. All this should provide better comfort and overall driving characteristics, including more engaging handling than before.
Styling
At this point, it’s still early to talk about the styling. Still, we may presume that the overall shape won’t change too much. The new model will feature similar proportions and we expect to see a typical SUV body. However, the hood should be slightly longer, in order to provide a little bit more attractive appearance.
When it comes to the design language, it’s hard to talk about the details until the test mule takes off the cover. We may presume that the new model will go in a similar direction as the recently redesigned subcompact HR-V, with a smoother and cleaner design than before.
Interior
On the inside, we count on a typical three-row configuration. As we already mentioned, the new model will feature a longer wheelbase, which should provide more legroom, especially in the third row. The current model already features one of the largest cargo areas in the segment, so we have no doubt that the 2023 Honda Pilot will continue in the same way, bringing minor improvements only. Of course, the interior look will be completely new, with improvements in various aspects. The current model features pretty good overall quality but doesn’t look particularly fancy, especially when compared to rivals. The new model should utilize nicer materials as well.
Naturally, we also expect to see lots of new tech features as well. For example, we could see more advanced safety systems but what most buyers anticipate is an improved infotainment system. The current one isn’t particularly impressive, so we presume Honda will put a lot of effort to improve in this aspect.
2023 Honda Pilot Engine
Most of the mechanics in the new generation will bring evolutionary changes. Therefore, the powertrain will remain largely the same. So, you may count on a well-known, super-refined 3.5-liter V6, the same version that powers the base MDX. It features a max output of 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of the max torque. The engine will come in pair with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, which should improve performance, efficiency and overall driving experience.
Besides the gasoline engine, there is also a chance to see a hybrid version. The officials are still quiet but the rumors say we could see a new, plug-in hybrid system, based on a turbo-four engine. More details should come in the near future.
2023 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price
We believe that the all-new 2023 Honda Pilot will be ready for the second half of the next year. Base models should go around 35.000 dollars, while key competitors should be models like Chevy Traverse, Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride etc.
