The pickup version of the new GMC Hummer is already here and now we are waiting for the SUV version. From what we know so far, this model will be ready for the next year and it will debut as the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV, according to the latest reports. This will be a big comeback of the legendary SUV, though things will be different this time. In past, the Hummer was a rugger SUV with an incredibly big appetite for fuel. Now, it will come in the form of an electric vehicle, which seemed unbelievable just a few years ago.
We have huge expectations from the new model and judging on the available information, it will bring a couple of differences compared to the pickup. First of all, it will feature smaller dimensions, a smaller battery and less power. However, that doesn’t mean it will be less capable. Moreover, the company prepares a special off-road package, which will make this SUV a super-capable off-road machine.
From what we know so far, the first versions will appear early in the next year.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Design
Design-wise, the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will bring no bigger surprises. We’ve already seen the pickup version, so it’s pretty much obvious what to expect from the new SUV. The two models will share the platform, based on the company’s new Ultium battery technology. This technology brings all kinds of great things, such as super-fast charging options, up-to-200kWh battery capacity etc.
Compared to the pickup, the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will come with some differences. One of them will be the size. From what we know so far, the wheelbase will be 8.9 inches shorter, which indicates that other dimensions could be smaller as well. Of course, the design language will be shared, particularly at the front. Still, the rest of the body will come in a typical SUV layout, with a recognizable boxy shape that closely resembles previous, gasoline-powered generations of Hummer. Also, we expect to see things like removable panels, massive 22-inch wheels etc.
Another difference is that the SUV version will be available with a pretty impressive off-road package. We still don’t know its name, but we know it will come equipped with things like 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch mud-terrain tires, skid plates, rock sliders, a front electronically locking differential, rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked diff, heavy-duty half-shafts, and underbody cameras. From what we can hear, this package will cost around $5.000.
Interior
The 2023 GMC Hummer SUV interior will be as interesting as the exterior design. Once again, we are about to see a close connection with the pickup model, especially when it comes to the dashboard design. Moreover, we don’t expect to see any differences in this aspect. The new SUV will come with a simplistic and futuristic dashboard design, which combines interesting materials and color combinations with lots of tech features. Of course, the most prominent details are screens. One of them is a 12.3 digital instrument cluster, while the infotainment screen includes a 13.4-inch touchscreen. Just like the pickup, this version will come with those interesting details that celebrate GM’s participation in Lunar Rover development. Therefore, we expect to see things like moon-boot footprints on the dead pedal, as well as Sea of Tranquility on the speaker grille.
Due to the shorter wheelbase, the SUV won’t feature three rows of seats, as some sources were suggesting. Instead, it will come with two rows and each one should be very generous with space. The cargo area should also offer pretty impressive numbers, thank’s to the vehicle’s boxy shape.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Powertrain
Just like the pickup, the SUV will also debut with the most capable, Edition 1 model. However, this SUV will feature less power. Even though it will feature the same number of electric motors, the max output will go around 830 horsepower. However, the overall performance will remain impressive, considering that the latest estimations suggest 0-60 time in about 3.5 seconds.
Another interesting thing about the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV will be its battery. Due to the shorter wheelbase, we will also see a smaller battery. The exact numbers are still unavailable, but sources suggest 300 miles of the max range, which is 30 less compared to the pickup.
Other versions of the SUV will feature a max output of 625 horsepower. Also, we count on different battery configurations. Base models will probably feature 250 miles of the all-electric range, while the optional bigger battery should ensure 300 miles on a single charge.
2023 GMC Hummer SUV Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 GMC Hummer SUV Edition 1 will hit the market early in the next year, with a starting price of $105,595. Other versions will come later and we expect that the most basic model will cost 79.995 dollars. Models like Rivian R1S, Bollinger B1 and Tesla Model X will be some of the key competitors.
