2023 Chevy Equinox Preview: Redesign, Specs, Features, Price

The 2022 model year is coming with big updates and after this mid-cycle update, we are pretty sure that the current generation will remain in production for a few more years. This also means that the 2023 Chevy Equinox should feature no notable changes. Of course, minor tweaks like new features and color options are always possible, but anything more than that would be a real surprise.

You may count on a familiar layout. This SUV still has a lot of good things to offer, starting from a spacious and comfortable cabin. We also like its handling, the comfort is on a decent level too. On the other hand, the biggest drawback is the fact that there is just one engine option on the offer now and it doesn’t impress regarding performances.

Considering that the 2023 Chevy Equinox will bring no significant changes, we expect to see it on sale in the second half of 2022.

2023 Chevy Equinox Redesign

The current generation of this compact crossover has been around since 2018. It is based on a familiar E2 platform and it actually features a surprisingly long wheelbase for the segment. The suspension setup is balanced and offers a bit of everything – read comfort and handling. Visually, the recent update has brought a couple of tweaks, particularly to the front end.

Also, this update has brought a new version called RS trim, which comes with a couple of sporty upgrades, such as blacked exterior details and dark 19-inch wheels. It also comes with a couple of interior upgrades, such as an exclusive gear shifter, red stitching and black upholstery. We presume that the 2023 Chevy Equinox RS will continue in the same, just like other versions.

Interior

The interior will also continue in the same way. This means you may count on a cabin design that has both good and bad things to offer. When it comes to the overall quality, things are decent enough. The dashboard looks attractive, while the materials are mostly nice. However, there are few areas wrapped with hard plastics and similar low-rent materials.

On the other hand, there is nothing to complain about when it comes to the passenger space. As we already mentioned, this crossover features a pretty impressive wheelbase for the segment, which results in one of the most generous legroom in the second row among compact crossovers. The front seats are also spacious and comfortable, though we would like to see a little bit more support. On the other hand, the cargo area isn’t that impressive. You may count on about 30 cubic feet behind the second row, while the total volume goes up to 64 cubic feet.

Features

We don’t expect to see bigger surprises in terms of standard and available equipment either. Of course, some additions are possible here and there, but most of the things are about to remain the same. So, base models will come equipped with a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, four USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, voice recognition, six-speaker stereo, keyless entry etc. Additionally, you can opt for upgrades like an 8-inch touch screen, navigation, two additional USB ports, wireless device charging, satellite radio, HD Radio, a seven-speaker Bose premium stereo, rear-seat entertainment system, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a universal garage door opener, a panoramic roof, a household-style power outlet, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a color driver information display.

When it comes to safety features, all models should come standard with goodies like forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, a following distance indicator, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, a rearview camera etc.

2023 Chevy Equinox Engine

When it comes to powertrain, a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-four has been dropped from the offer recently. So, the only engine you can get at the moment is a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 170 horsepower. With such power, it doesn’t feel particularly energetic. It runs well in local roads but we feel it struggles too much on the highway. The engine comes in pair with a six-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth and generally does a pretty fine job.

What we particularly like about this powertrain is fuel economy. This turbo-four engine returns around 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, which is quite good for the segment.
