2023 Acura MDX Preview: No Bigger Changes to Expect

Acura’s well-known mid-size crossover has just received a complete overhaul. The new generation brings a full load of improvements, starting from more space on the inside, better interior quality and more refinements. As the 2023 Acura MDX is about to represent the second production year of the generation, it’s easy to conclude that bigger changes won’t happen. Of course, minor tweaks and a few additions of new standard features are always possible, but the overall layout will certainly remain the same.

So, you may count on familiar design characteristics, which bring a lot of improvements over the previous generation. The new model rides even better, while the interior quality is at a much higher level than before. Of course, the refined V6 is still here, while the company has also brought back the famous Type S badge. This high-performance version comes with several upgrades, including a turbocharged V6 engine.

We expect to see 2023 Acura MDX on sale sometime in the last quarter of 2022.

2023 Acura MDX Release Date

2023 Acura MDX Design

The 2023 Acura MDX will represent the second production year of the generation. So, there is no doubt that it will feature the same design as the 2022 model. This means that you may count on a new chassis setup, which provides more engaging handling before, without sacrificing overall comfort. The new generation is lighter and stiffer, while the new Type S comes with a few more additional upgrades. It features upgraded suspension, as well as Brembo brakes at the front.

Visually, the 2023 Acura MDX will carry on in the same way. Of course, new color options and appearance packages are always possible. Still, the new generation looks really amazing and we have no doubt that the styling is about to remain pretty much the same.

Interior

The same thing goes for interior design. The new cabin looks really good, especially in terms of build quality. Also, the materials are nice, though the dashboard doesn’t look as flashy as the dashboards of some rivals. Still, we like the “analog” approach of Acura’s dashboard design, where a lot of controls have still remained physical.

2023 Acura MDX Interior

When it comes to interior space, this crossover has a lot to offer. The new generation features a 2.8-inch longer wheelbase than its predecessor, so improvements regarding legroom are notable as well. The first two rows are very spacious and comfortable. The front seats are massive and supportive, while the driving position is excellent. On the other hand, the third row is typically tight for the segment, though it can be pretty useful too.

The cargo area is good for about 16.3 cubic feet behind the third-row seats, 39.1 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded down, and 71.4 behind the first row. Those are pretty good numbers for the class.

Features

We don’t believe that the list of standard and available equipment could be much different compared to the 2022 model. So, base versions should come standard with goodies like tri-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch display, a touchpad controller, a nine-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, Amazon Alexa, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, moonroof etc. Among upgrades, we expect to see goodies like navigation, additional USB ports, and a 12-, 16-, or 25-speaker ELS audio system.

When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic jam assist, traffic sign recognition etc. Things like head-up display, parking sensors and surround-view camera will be optional.

2023 Acura MDX Engines

The base 2023 Acura MDX will continue with the same 3.5-liter V6 engine, which features a max output of 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough power for a convenient ride and we are pretty sure that most drivers will be happy with its performance. The acceleration is strong, while the engine feels very refined. Also, the new 10-speed automatic transmission does a pretty good job. The average fuel economy goes around 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

The Type S will come soon and we have no doubt that the version for 2023 model year will be pretty much the same. Unlike the standard model, this one comes equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, which features a max output of 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. That should be enough to ensure 0-60 sprint in less than 5 seconds.
