If we can trust the latest reports, it looks like there’s another comeback on the way. Allegedly, GMC is already working on the new Jimmy, which could come already in the next year, rumors say. On the other side, the officials are still quiet about all this. So, we recommend you to take the following paragraphs with a big reserve, as they are based solely on rumors and speculations. For now, we will call it the 2022 GMC Jimmy.
If it arrives, we have no doubt it will be a very interesting model. We would see a genuine SUV, based on a true body-on-frame platform, which would provide excellent utility and off-road capability. Naturally, we count on a rugged design, which will follow the brand’s latest design language, heavily inspired by pickup trucks. Also, we count on a wide engine offer, which could include some pretty capable options as well.
As we already mentioned, rumors suggest that the 2022 GMC Jimmy could arrive already in the next year.
2022 GMC Jimmy Redesign
The most important thing about the 2022 GMC Jimmy is that the new model is expected to follow the same path as the previous versions of this SUV. Unlike the Blazer, it won’t become a crossover. Instead, we would see a genuine BoF layout, a real SUV chassis. We presume that the new model would use the same platform as the Canyon/Colorado, though notably updated.
Compared to the aforementioned pickups, this SUV would come with a slightly more refined setup. This particularly refers to the suspension setup, which would provide a more comfortable ride. Still, that doesn’t mean that the new Jimmy wouldn’t be capable. Moreover, you count on trim levels that go pretty extreme in this aspect and feature a full load of off-road hardware. This would include things like locking differentials, two-speed transfer case, skid plates, upgraded suspension, off-road tires etc.
2022 GMC Jimmy Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, the first thing we should talk about is the size. We expect that the 2022 GMC Jimmy would be a mid-size SUV. Most likely, we would see something similar to Toyota 4Runner, though it would also compete with four-door versions of Wrangler and Bronco. Therefore, something about 115 inches in wheelbase is what we hope for.
In terms of aesthetics, we count on a heavy influence from the company’s latest pickup trucks, Sierra and Canyon. This particularly refers to the front end, which should come with the same bold layout, with a massive grille and rectangular headlights. Of course, there is always enough room for exclusive details. The rest of the body would come in a typical SUV manner, with a wagon-like body that can accommodate lots of passengers and cargo.
As we’ve just mentioned, this SUV should come with a boxy shape and plenty of interior space. We expect that three rows of seats will be offered, at least as an option. The first two rows should offer plenty of space and a high level of comfort, while the third row wouldn’t be that generous, most likely. The cargo area should also be very generous with space, though we won’t estimate precise numbers at this point.
When it comes to the dashboard design and overall quality, we expect to see a mix of nice and hard-touch materials. The cabin should look nice but should be durable enough to stand heavy exploitation. Naturally, we also expect to see a long list of tech features, which would make the cabin look more upscale. This would include things like a large infotainment screen, the digital screen on the instrument cluster etc.
2022 GMC Jimmy Engines
We already mentioned that we count on a long list of engine options in the new 2022 GMC Jimmy. At this point, we have no doubt that the new model would come standard with a good-old 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower. A relatively new 2.7-liter turbo-four would probably be offered as well. This engine offers a similar amount of power but much more torque, which makes it more appropriate for off-roading.
A diesel version is possible too. Many believe that GMC engineers would find a way to install a 3.0-liter V6 in this SUV. This six-cylinder turbodiesel puts out around 277 horsepower and offers a pretty impressive max torque of 460 pound-feet.
Finally, some sources even speculate about a hi-performance version with eight cylinders. Jeep already did such a thing with Wrangler, so we don’t see a reason why GMC wouldn’t do the same thing.
2022 GMC Jimmy Release Date and Price
At this point, the 2022 GMC Jimmy is just a rumor, so we can’t talk about any more precise date. When it comes to the price, many reports suggest that we could see this comeback already in the next year. Key competitors would be models like Toyota 4Runner, Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco etc.
