Pickup trucks have always been playing a vastly important role in the Blue Oval company, so it’s no wonder that we are about to see further expansion in the future. Besides well-known names like F-150 and Ranger, there are two more, unibody pickups to come in the near future. One of them will be the 2022 Ford Courier, which will be the smallest pickup in the company’s lineup. At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation.
The Courier isn’t a new name in the company’s portfolio. It has been around for decades and it was always reserved for a small commercial vehicle. The latest iterations were usually based on the Fiesta hatchback, but it looks like the new 2022 Ford Courier is going to be a little bit bigger. As we already mentioned, the officials are still quiet on this matter. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate and make predictions about this pickup. The latest rumors suggest it could arrive already by the end of this year.
2022 Ford Courier Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Ford Courier is still waiting for official confirmation, so take the following paragraphs with a reserve. At this point, we can only rely on rumors and they say that the new Courier will be slightly bigger than before. Of course, it will utilize a unibody, passenger car platform. In this case, it won’t be based on Fiesta, but rather on a slightly bigger Focus. Still, it will remain the smallest pickup in the company’s lineup. The other pickup we mentioned will come as Ford Maverick and despite the unibody platform, it will be much more truckish and will feature bigger dimensions, similar to Honda Ridgeline.
In the case of the 2022 Ford Courier, the front part will look pretty much identical to the new Focus. This refers to the area between the front bumper and B-Pillar. The rest of the vehicle could come in different variants, with a single or dual cab layout, different bed designs etc.
As we’ve just mentioned, the mechanics should be mostly shared with the current-generation Focus. Since we are talking about a pretty light commercial vehicle, which won’t feature some too impressive payload capacity, the suspension setup shouldn’t be too rigid on the rear end.
Interior
Since we are talking about a small commercial vehicle, the interior design shouldn’t much different compared to the passenger car counterparts. The overall cab layout would be pretty similar to Focus, though everything would be toned down, in order to make the pickup affordable. That would mean lower-grade materials and a simpler dashboard design, with notably fewer tech features in the offer.
When it comes to the passenger space, we presume that base versions will be strictly commercial vehicles, so a single cab layout is what we expect to see. Of course, we expect that the double cab version will be in the offer as well. In both cases, the total length should be the same, which would mean different bed sizes.
2022 Ford Courier Engines
We don’t expect bigger surprises under the hood, so the 2022 Ford Courier should come with two familiar engines under the hood, at least when it comes to the North American market. Base models would feature a 1.5-liter EcoBoost, which puts out around 180 horsepower. A 2.0-liter turbo-four could be offered too. This one puts out around 250 horsepower.
In other parts of the world, such as Europe and South America, we could see something smaller and less powerful in the offer too, maybe a 1.0-liter engine with 125 horsepower. The European version could be offered with diesel engines as well.
2022 Ford Courier Release Date and Price
The 2022 Ford Courier could arrive already by the end of the year rumors say. When it comes to the price, we presume that base models would go around 20.000 dollars. More details should come in the near future.
