2021 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross Gets New Styling, New Engines and More

If you look at the current generation of this small crossover, it looks it has been around for an eternity. Actually, things aren’t much different, considering that we haven’t seen a complete redesign for about seven years. That’s a pretty long period for the subcompact segment. However, the current model still sells pretty well and that’s the main reason why Suzuki won’t rush with a complete redesign. However, some changes are definitely coming for the 2021 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross. The Japanese manufacturer prepared another facelift, which brings a lot of nice changes.

Some of them are in terms of styling. The new version looks better than before. However, big changes are coming under the hood as well. There are new engine options for specific markets, especially in Europe, where emission standards are pretty high. On the other side, the cabin remains largely the same.

2021 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross Redesign

When it comes to base design characteristics, the 2021 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross continues in the same way. The current generation has been around since 2013 and it’s capable enough for competing with much younger rivals for a few more years. However, there are some nice updates we have to mention. This particularly refers to the front end. Changes are subtle but quite effective. This particularly refers to the grille, where you can find a new set of vertical chrome bars, designed in the same manner as those found in the new Vitara. While the design of the headlights remains the same, the internal configuration of headlamps is completely different and even such a minor change makes the crossover look better.

The rear end also comes with a couple of tweaks. You can notice a slightly different rear bumper, while the taillights have been revised slightly as well. Naturally, you may also count on new color options and new wheels.

Interior

This update didn’t bring too many changes on the inside. Moreover, most of the things have remained the same. This means you may count on a familiar cabin layout, which is designed in a typical Japanese-school manner. This means it is rather functional than stylish. Materials are mostly hard plastics, though the overall build quality seems pretty impressive and everything promises years of exploitation.

Another thing we like about this interior is that you get a pretty nice list of standard equipment, considering the price tag. Even the most basic models come with things like adaptive cruise control and power side mirrors, while mid-level models come with goodies like a  touchscreen, cloth upholstery, heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel. Range-topping models also come with features like navigation, parking sensors and chrome wheels, while the range-topping Exclusive model adds leather seats and a panoramic sunroof.

When it comes to powertrain options, the offer largely depends on the part of the world. Most changes came in Europe, due to high emissions standards. So, the 2021 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross comes standard with a new 1.4-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 140 horsepower. The same engine is available in a hybrid version, where the engine’s power is detuned, but the combined output also goes around 140 horsepower.

In many parts of the world, particularly in Asia, you can still get models with a good-old 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine, which puts out around 110 horsepower. Traditionally, Suzuki cooperates with Fiat when it comes to diesel engines, so familiar MultiJet units are available in many markets.
