The current generation of Infiniti’s flagship SUV has been around for a full decade but it looks like we are still far away from a complete overhaul. Moreover, it looks like that the 2021 Infiniti QX80 will be a typical carryover model, which will come with familiar design characteristics and overall layout. According to the latest reports, the best we could see are novelties in terms of a few more standard features, while a couple of new color options are also possible.
All this means that you may count on the same SUV, which still has several great things to offer, starting from a quite affordable price. It comes with a powerful V8 engine and offers pretty impressive handling and overall driving experience. Furthermore, it is also a quite practical SUV, which comes with a spacious cargo area, as well as lots of space for passengers. We expect to see it sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2021 Infiniti QX80 Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the base design of this SUV definitely won’t changes. Although it has been around for a full decade and it feels a little bit outdated, it is generally a pretty competitive SUV, especially from the driver’s point of view. The ride quality is pretty good, while we particularly like the handling.
Styling-wise, things aren’t that bad at all. Despite the age, this SUV looks pretty modern, thanks to a couple of updates we’ve seen during this long production cycle. The last one was three years ago and it has brought significant styling changes. The new version came inspired by the Monograph concept and looks really attractive. From this perspective, Infiniti really doesn’t have to rush with changes. As we’ve just mentioned, the best we could see for the next year, in terms of aesthetics, could be a couple of new color options.
Interior
This aspect of SUV largely depends on your point of view. Of course, there is an age issue. Also, some materials may make you feel disappointed, such as fake wood in some areas. Still, if you consider that this SUV is significantly more affordable than its key competitors, things actually look pretty much okay.
The overall quality may be lower compared to some rivals, but when it comes to comfort, there is really nothing to complain about. First of all, seats are really amazing, definitely some of the best in class. Furthermore, the amount of space is pretty impressive in the first two rows, while the third one can accommodate adults as well.
Another great thing about this interior is the cargo area, which offers some pretty impressive numbers for the class. You may count on about 16.6 cubic feet of space behind the third-row seats, 49.6 cubic feet behind the second row, and a maximum cargo capacity of 95.1 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded.
Features
As we’ve just mentioned, there is a chance to see a couple of new standard features for the next year. Still, most of the things will remain the same. When it comes to tech goodies, you may count on the same dual-screen setup, which includes the upper 8-inch touchscreen and the lower 7-inch unit. The list of standard equipment also includes goodies like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a navigation system, four USB ports, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a 13-speaker Bose stereo. That’s a pretty impressive list of goodies, which can be expanded even more. You can get a bigger, 8-inch lower touchscreen, 17-speaker Bose stereo, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a 120-volt household-style power outlet.
In terms of safety, all models will come standard with systems like front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, rain-sensing windshield wipers, rear cross traffic alert, and a surround-view parking camera system.
2021 Infiniti QX80 Engine
Under the hood, things will definitely remain the same. The 2021 Infiniti QX80 is about to carry on with a familiar 5.6-liter V8 engine, which in this case puts out 400 horsepower. It comes in pair with a 7-speed automatic transmission. The engine feels muscular and overall driving dynamics are pretty good.
When it comes to fuel economy, this engine returns around 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Those are subpar ratings for the class. On the other side, the max towing rating is pretty good for the class, as it goes up to pretty respectable 8.500 pounds.
2021 Infiniti QX80 Release Date and Price
Considering that there are no bigger changes to come for the next model year, we presume that the 2021 Infiniti QX80 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year. When it comes to the price, we expect that base models will go around 67.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Toyota Land Cruiser, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator etc.
