2021 Infiniti QX50 Preview: Price, Changes, Interior, Specs

The QX50 is one of the rare Infiniti models that still makes some solid sales numbers. The main reason probably lays in the fact that it competes in the most popular car segment in the industry these days but it actually has a lot more to offer. Of course, the most notable is the styling, which is certainly among the most appealing in the class. Furthermore, the interior looks good and offers plenty of space. Finally, there is the so-much advertised engine, which tries to collide worlds of efficiency and performance.

For the next year, we won’t see too many changes. The current generation is still relatively fresh, while the company has many other things in mind these days, when it comes to priorities. That’s why the biggest novelties are additions to the list of standard equipment, new color options and similar kinds of updates. Still, the overall layout remains the same, so it’s no wonder that the price has remained pretty much the same.

2021 Infiniti QX50 Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, we certainly won’t see any particular change. The current generation has been around for a while and most of us are already familiar with what it has to offer. The first thing that comes to mind about the 2021 Infiniti QX50 is the styling. It won’t change, but that’s not an issue, considering that we are talking about one of the best looking models in the class. Still, there is a new color option in the offer, called Mineral Black.

These days, virtually every carmaker sooner or later come up with a special edition that includes lots of blacked details. The 2021 Infiniti QX50 won’t be an exception, so you may count on a new package that includes things like 20-inch wheels, dark chrome accents, and black mirror caps and grille mesh. This package is reserved for the Luxe trim.

Interior

When it comes to interior design, we won’t see any particular change. Therefore, the 2021 Infiniti QX50 will carry on with the cabin that looks quite attractive. The overall quality is pretty good, though not exactly at the same level as models like Audi Q5 or BMW X3. Still, the dashboard is attractive and utilizes some pretty nice materials and color combinations. However, the dual-screen setup definitely isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Still, the strongest point of this crossover in comfort. Nissan traditionally makes excellent seats, while the amount of space in this particular model is really impressive. Furthermore, sound insulation is pretty good, while the suspension setup is pretty soft and provides a cushioned ride. That’s a two-blade sword, so handling and overall experience are less sporty compared to models like X3 or Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

This is also one of the rare premium compact crossovers that are quite practical. It offers around 31.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seats and a roomy 65.1 cubic feet them folded. Those are some of the best ratings in the class.

Features

When it comes to standard features, the 2021 model year brings a couple of interesting novelties. First of all, the list of standard equipment now includes goodies like a Wi-Fi hotspot, laminated front side glass, and side-mounted airbags in the rear seat. Other than that, things are pretty familiar, so base models also include goodies like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, a CD player, and dual-zone automatic climate control.  The list of options isn’t particularly long but you can get things like navigation and a premium audio system.

When it comes to safety features, things are much different, so all models come standard with goodies like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, front and rear collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. Additionally, you can get things like a head-up display, traffic sign recognition, adaptive pivoting headlights, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control etc.

2021 Infiniti QX50 Engine

Things under the hood will certainly remain the same. The next-year model will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which features unique variable compression technology. In theory, this means better fuel economy compared to similarly powered engines. In practice, 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway are qute average for the segment.

The engine features a max output of 268 horsepower, which is more compared to most rivals. However, most rivals have optional six-cylinder units in the offer. Also, the engine comes in pair with a CVT, which doesn’t have a particular effect on acceleration and overall performances, so the experience is rather bland and uninspiring.
